The Ozark Off Road Cyclists will present the 4th annual Eureka Springs Fat Tire Festival July 13 through 15 at Harmon Park and Lake Leatherwood Park in Eureka Springs. Live music, camping and $5,000 in cash and prizes make this festival one of the highest attended mountain bike races in the region. The year's festival will include the citizen class races, trials events, more music and other activities. Along with the Lake Leatherwood Classic will be the Race to the Lake, a point to point race from Eureka Springs to Lake Leatherwood, starting at Basin Park in downtown Eureka Springs. The start to this race is like no other in the state. Contestants will race through downtown and on hidden city trails. The festival is very spectator friendly and exciting with an emphasis on family fun. Both races are part of the Arkansas Mountain Bike Point Series and are sanctioned with the National Off Road Biking Association, assuring the participation of regional and national racers. Classes for racers include beginner, sport and expert. Lake Leatherwood park is a large park with 1,600 acres. The park lies just north of historic Eureka Springs on AR 62. It contains one of the largest hand-laid stone dams in the nation, and the races travel across it both days. The OORC is a non-profit organization that promotes safe and enjoyable cycling throughout the Northwest Arkansas area.
