Frequently Asked Questions

Q. How Hard Is It To Install The RH Industries Aqua-Ram Pump ?

A. EASY! The RH Industries Aqua-Ram Pump Installation is simple. Each Aqua-Ram pump is complete except for your pipe. It requires PVC pipe for the supply-side of the pump and is easily assembled. You can use flexible plastic, vinyl pipe or a garden hose to connect the delivery or "discharge" side of the pump. You can add a "Holding-Tank" for collection and storage of water or it can be delivered directly.

Q.  How Does the RH Industries Aqua-Ram Pump Work?

A. Water enters the supply-side of the pump through a pipe from an elevated water source. This pipe must be relatively long and thick so that significant force (inertia) is developed as the water moves down it to the chamber. The pump is powered by the force of the water flowing in. As the chamber fills and the ESCAPE VALVE closes, the DELIVERY VALVE to the AIR DOME opens. The rushing water causes water to be pushed into the air dome and fills compressing the air the chamber. This creates enough pressure to create an opposing force on the incoming water causing the second valve to drop closed. With the closing of the delivery valve, it causes the air pressure to push water up the outlet pipe. This opening and closing of values creates a repeating cycle or water hammer effect that occurs about once every second. This whole process is aided by the momentum of the moving water from the source or delivery-side pipe into the Aqua-Pump.

Q. What does the RH Industries Aqua-Ram Pump Need To Work?

A. It needs at least a 2 gallon per minute water supply to drive the pump. With as little as a 2 foot (0.6 meters) fall from the water source to the pump, and a flow rate of 1 to 3 gallons (3.8 to 11.4 liters) per minute, it can provide enough kinetic energy to drive the system and provide up to 20 foot (6 meters) of vertical lift to the discharge point.
